Message from the President |
Dear Skal Members,
This month we are hosted by the Captain for one of the most fun, exciting & flavorful (Good food & Drink) meetings of our year and highlighted by the induction of our new President, Chris Perks who begins his term of office on April 1.
This meeting will also be our Annual General Meeting where members of the board bring you up to date on where our club is and an opportunity for you to ask questions and also volunteer for the next SKAL year.
Now is my opportunity to thank the Board of Directors of this past year for all their support and hard work. It is impressive to know so many individuals who are dedicated to SKAL and their fellow Industry members. Thank you so much and I look forward to another year of working together whether on the Board or on committees that need assistance.
I wish to invite all of you to Save the dates in August (20-22) to attend SKAL Summer Congress in Calloway Gardens. Watch your emails for all the up to date information and activities. It is a great resort.
Thank you for allowing me the privilege this past year to serve as your President and I look forward to seeing you on Mar 9th.
Yours in SKAL,
Nina

SKAL Member Directory
Laurel Herman along with Lupe Castillo & Doug Reinmuth are currently in the process of producing the 2010 Directory and need to insure that your information is correct. Please let them or Jerry know if your info needs to be up-to-dated.
In addition, there are also a few spots left for advertising in the Directory at very modest prices. Again, if you wish to advertise please let us know ASAP. Advertisements from your colleagues that are not members (restaurants, suppliers, etc) are also welcome.
SKAL Badge Tradition
At the last board meeting it was decided to re-institute the Skal tradition of imposing a modest fine on those that do not wear their name badge or pin at the monthly meetings. This will be carried out in fun and Amicale by our Sargent of Arms, Luis Sanchez.
All monies collected will go to help fund a scholarship award in Hospitality & Tourism.
If you need to replace your badge or pin please let Jerry know. Badges replacements are $10 and regular member pins are $5. Officer replacement pins are $10.
A confirmation of your order for a replacement pin or badge will be your "Get out of Jail Free" card until your new badge or pin arrives.
Help for Haiti

Dear Skålleagues, Dear Friends,
During the meeting in Zagreb on 5 February 2010, the Executive Committee unanimously approved to support the SOS CHILDRENS VILLAGES-HAITI. CLICK FOR PDF PACKAGE.
The principles of this organisation are to offer children and orphans a true family life and moreover for brothers and sisters to stay together. You will find a link to learn more about this organisation and its actions worldwide but, as far as we are concerned, it is their actions in two villages in Haiti which we will be supporting.
Thanks to those who have already donated we have been able to forward this week a first donation of Euros 5000 which will be used for urgent needs locally but we still need your continued support to participate in the reconstruction of the country. The houses, school and SOS Children’s Villages Haiti are the only ones not to have been destroyed, most likely because they were built of good material and as a result they have been able to welcome a large number of children from other organisations.
In a second stage, from June onwards, it is hoped to construct new housing (one house can welcome 10 children) but also to extend the school and a house for young people because the actual capacity is 150 and this will be extended to welcome 300 children per village.
It is our hope that this will be a long-term partnership and that we will be able to give you regular updates on the village and the children.
We still need your aid and your generosity to help the orphans in Haiti so that they can stay in their country and have a good education.
As you have no doubt given to other humanitarian organisations, we would be very grateful if you can participate in this Skål International project.
If each member were only to give Euros 10 this would amount to Euros 200,000 for a good cause.
You can also organise a collection or a tombola, etc. during your next Skål lunch or dinner; Clubs and National Committees can also make donations.
Skål International Director, Marianne KROHN will be organisation a collection during ITB in Berlin .
Thank you for your support and for your generosity.
