Message from the President
Christopher Perks |
Dear Skal Members,
It was a beautiful moonlit night over SKAL MIAMI for our Club’s March Installation Reception Dinner with the starlight glow of a hundred Skalleagues and their guests from all over South Florida and visiting SKAL members from far afield. All were onboard the magnificent setting of The Biscayne Lady for our annual ritual of the “changing of the guard” of outgoing and incoming officers and board members! Thank you Nina Meyer, et al for navigating our club safely through a challenging year.
We are also most appreciative and fortunate to have installed for 2010/11 effective April 1st a lineup of dedicated officers, board members, committee chairs and of course our executive secretary-treasurer, Jerry Eastep. All names and contact details can be found in the soon to be distributed
SKAL Miami membership directory.
Once again, our sincere thanks to Captain Haley and the crew of The Biscayne Lady for a very enjoyable evening with generous open bars, wine, various gourmet food stations and cigar roller for a most memorable sailing on Biscayne Bay! We are truly fortunate and grateful to have Captain Haley, SKAL VP and all of his colleagues at Biscayne Yacht Charters & Island Queen Cruises’ support of SKAL Miami.
Most important in this new year we will be sharing friendship and amicale at outstanding monthly club events in the true spirit of SKAL. Our next of which will be on Tuesday, April 13th at The Ivy at the Grove Miami, the real McCoy from London recently opened and offers modern American cuisine and British favourites in an elegant mansion setting with inviting ambiance in the heart of bustling Coconut Grove. This will be a prepaid reception dinner in the annual active membership club dues and you are encouraged to invite guests and prospective future members as this will be a fabulous kick off dinner of the new SKAL Club’s 60th Anniversary year with a knock out guest value; look for the announcement to follow with the full details.
The officers and board look forward to seeing you all there!
Wishing you a most enjoyable holiday weekend!
Christopher Perks

Help for Haiti

Dear Skålleagues, Dear Friends,
During the meeting in Zagreb on 5 February 2010, the Executive Committee unanimously approved to support the SOS CHILDRENS VILLAGES-HAITI. CLICK FOR PDF PACKAGE.
The principles of this organisation are to offer children and orphans a true family life and moreover for brothers and sisters to stay together. You will find a link to learn more about this organisation and its actions worldwide but, as far as we are concerned, it is their actions in two villages in Haiti which we will be supporting.
Thanks to those who have already donated we have been able to forward this week a first donation of Euros 5000 which will be used for urgent needs locally but we still need your continued support to participate in the reconstruction of the country. The houses, school and SOS Children’s Villages Haiti are the only ones not to have been destroyed, most likely because they were built of good material and as a result they have been able to welcome a large number of children from other organisations.
In a second stage, from June onwards, it is hoped to construct new housing (one house can welcome 10 children) but also to extend the school and a house for young people because the actual capacity is 150 and this will be extended to welcome 300 children per village.
It is our hope that this will be a long-term partnership and that we will be able to give you regular updates on the village and the children.
We still need your aid and your generosity to help the orphans in Haiti so that they can stay in their country and have a good education.
As you have no doubt given to other humanitarian organisations, we would be very grateful if you can participate in this Skål International project.
If each member were only to give Euros 10 this would amount to Euros 200,000 for a good cause.
You can also organise a collection or a tombola, etc. during your next Skål lunch or dinner; Clubs and National Committees can also make donations.
Skål International Director, Marianne KROHN will be organisation a collection during ITB in Berlin .
Thank you for your support and for your generosity.
